At the request of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) has contracted a third party consultant to gather critical feedback on the status and effectiveness of the 4 Strategies and 20 Recommendations outlined in Discovering Ontario, the comprehensive Ontario Tourism Competitiveness Study introduced in February 2009. (The creation of the Regional Tourism Organization model for the province was one of 20 recommendations made in the report. (see 1.2)) Continue reading

2014 Winter Voucher Program

Explore The Edge is a voucher redemption program that will target the 47,000 Explorers’ Edge Facebook fans to encourage them to visit the region this winter.

Between January 20th and March16th, fans on our Facebook page (including new fans) can register to receive $50 in cash vouchers to spend at participating attractions, restaurants, shops, etc. (a.k.a. Experience Providers).  By booking a minimum 1 night stay at participating accommodations, upon registering for the Explore The Edge and indicating their accommodations confirmation #, they will receive an additional $50 in cash vouchers to spend at participating Experience Providers. RTO12 DDP CoverExplorers’ Edge is the Regional Tourism Organization (RTO 12) serving the broad geographic area of Algonquin Park, the Almaguin Highlands, Loring-Restoule, Muskoka and Parry Sound.  This RTO 12 Destination Development Plan (DDP) highlights the Explorers’ Edge strategy for the next three years (2014-2017). The organization has been in start-up mode for the past three years and grown at a phenomenal rate, developing an effective Board structure, operating systems and successful tourism programs.  This can only happen with a dedicated Board and staff.
